Here we are at the end of my twelve weeks and while I didn’t make my goal of losing fifty pounds in twelve weeks, I still feel pretty good about what I accomplished in a short period of time. I lost weight, inches and gained lean muscle, strength, PRs and added endurance. I think my before and after pictures speak volumes regarding what can be accomplished when we tackle our goals with 100% commitment and consistency. To keep this blog family friendly, I offer my before and after SFW pictures:
If you still counting (and I am) I lost 36 lbs. and 32.25 inches overall in the twelve weeks. At the end of week 8, the Progenex whiz kids told me that my actual rate of body fat being lost in weeks 5-8 (-7.493) which was faster than weeks 1-4 (-6.857), the result of putting on more lean muscle mass. They also said that since I was putting on more lean muscle mass I would see increased results for weeks 9-12. Well they nailed it because weeks 9-12 saw my rate of body fat loss go to -7.731. The whiz kids were pretty stoked and so was I. If you are looking to lose body fat and add lean muscle mass give Progenex a try they really do have the science dialed in. Keep in mind it’s not easy, but I was 100% committed and 100% consistent to the plan laid out for me in the beginning. But it translated into significant losses in pounds and inches and significant increases in my strength and endurance. I am finishing WOD’s faster than ever and I have PR’d many lifts along the way and not by 1 or 2 lbs. more like 25, 30, 45 and more lbs. For example, in the twelve week period by 1 rep max push jerk improved from 205 lbs to 265 lbs. and my Grace time decreased by 1:30 min.
I still have a long way to go on my journey to reach my goal, but I am still committed to the journey. I turn forty in a month, and while I haven’t reached my goal yet, I am closer than twelve weeks ago. I have coaches and friends at Progenex and Letrono Crossfit that inspire me, push me, motivate me and believe in me. I hope you all have the same it makes a huge difference! When I was asked to participate in these blog posts I did it reluctantly but agreed to it because I wanted to help myself and I wanted to help those that might be similarly situated. Even if you already have six-pack abs or you’re going to the Games, I still hope you got something out of my short experiment and the blog posts. The bottom-line is we all have demons, they take different forms for each one of us, but we all have them. We all battle something every day. The good news is we all have an incredibly supportive Crossfit community to help us battle those demons. I have a plaque in my office that someone gave me a long time ago that I have always liked and always tried to adhere to:
The heights that great men reached and kept
where not obtained by sudden flight but they,
while their companions slept, were toiling
upward in the night.
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
None of us can reach our goals overnight but if we are all “toiling upward” we all can get there. If it wasn’t for the demons to fight, we would all stay the same and what a waste that would be! I hope you’re all seeing and positive progress in your goals whatever they may be. If you reached your goal – set another! If you haven’t set a goal – do it now! Don’t give up; stick with it and be committed and consistent! To celebrate turning the Big 40 next month I am tackling Spealler’s Mountain Meltdown on May 2 in Park City, Utah…don’t time cap me Speal! P.S. the new Progenex Cinnamon Slumber Cocoon is insanely good you need to order it NOW!
